Northeast Kings Education Centre is a grades 6-12 school with a population of approx. 900 students drawing from 14 communities in the County of Kings.  We have almost 90 staff members supporting our school community.  We pride ourselves in being a very supportive staff team that works diligently in supporting all students to meet with success in their courses.  We work hard at building strong relationships with our students and doing the extra things outside of the typical school day that makes a big difference in the experience that our students receive at our school.

Earth Week
Today we are showing our Titans pride by wearing green and blue clothing. We hope that students and staff tried to reuse or borrow clothing and not buy new. Buying new clothing from unethical brands contributes to pollution and human exploitation. Buying from mainstream brands such as Forever 21 and H&M who use sweatshops to make their clothes allows the abuse of their workers. These mistreatments include poor working conditions, unfair wages, unreasonable hours, child labor, and a lack of benefits for workers. There is also a huge negative environment impact with these mainstream brands due to their textile factories such as water pollution caused by the toxic chemicals used to create textiles and then the untreated chemicals get released, polluting waterways/ groundwater sources. These examples are just the start. There are ways to avoid this, by repurposing and sharing clothes because where you spend your money votes for what you want! We will also be live streaming “A Plastic Ocean” for
any class who is interested in watching.

Library
Today the library is celebrating Poem in Your Pocket Day. If you would like to have a poem to carry around today and hopefully share with others, come to the library at any time to choose one. Staff members can have one delivered to their classroom upon request. Poetry is a great way to add a note of humour, pathos, or thoughtfulness to your day.

Duke of Ed
There will be a very important Duke of Ed meeting today at lunch for all students going to Blomidon.

Grade 6 Make a Difference Project
The grade 6s are working hard to make a positive difference in the world. One group will be selling lemonade at lunch with all proceeds going towards childhood cancer in our province.

Girls’ Rugby
The girls’ rugby team travelled to Windsor yesterday for a developmental game against King’s Edgehill’s “B” side. It was a great opportunity for our newer players to get some playing time and some rugby experience. After a somewhat slow and shaky start, the girls eventually settled down and began to execute our game plan, especially in the second half. They eventually cruised to an easy 57-17 win on trys scored by Rachel Sheffield with 4, Courtney Ells with 3, Kismet Hartlen with 1 and Jackie Auner with 1. Rachel Sheffield also chipped in with 6 conversion kicks. Player of the game for the second game in a row was Jayda Blackman. The girls travel to West Kings tomorrow for an important division 2 game. A reminder for the girls to get player fees submitted ASAP and the next practice for the team will be Monday after school.
